  • Named Academic Research Fellow at MIT Center for Information Systems Research, 2025.
  • Named an Honorary Distinguished Professor at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth University (MU), Ireland, 2023.
  • Listed among the Top 25 of all Management Professors by the management magazine Wirtschaftswoche (2018, 2020, 2022, 2024) out of 3,500 researcher across all fields of business, economics and information systems based on publication quality metrics.
  • Recognized with the Award for Academic Service to the NeuroIS Community by the NeuroIS Society.
  • Recipient of the AIS Outstanding Chapter Award 2023 for achievements in research, teaching and knowledge transfer, Liechtenstein Chapter of the AIS, 2023 – ten times in a row since inauguration of the award in 2014 (see the Crypto Credential).
  • Named Schöller Senior Fellow by the Dr Theo and Friedl Schoeller Research Center for Business and Society at the FAU Friedrich–Alexander University Erlangen–Nürnberg in February 2022.

  • Recipient of the BPM 2021 Case Innovation Award with the paper “A Matrix for Context-Aware Business Process Management: Empirical Evidence from Hilti” at the 19st International Business Process Management Conference, Rome, Italy.
  • Recipient of the AIS Outstanding Chapter Award 2020 for achievements in research, teaching and knowledge transfer, Liechtenstein Chapter of the AIS, 2021 – since 2014.
  • Recipient of the Best Paper of the Year 2020 by Electronic Markets (ISI: 4.417) for the paper “Conceptualizing Smart Service Systems” (together with D. Beverungen, M. Matzner, J. Mendling, O. Müller).
  • Recipient of the ERASMUS+ Award 2020 for the best project in Higher Education since 2014, by AIBA, Developing an Online Curriculum for Business Process Management together with Jörg Becker (WWU Münster), Jan Mendling (WU Vienna), Hajo Reijers (VU Amsterdam), and Matthias Trier (CBS Copenhagen).
  • Recognized a Digital Leader 2020 by the initiative Digital Liechtenstein, for taking an active role in the development of Liechtenstein and its region towards an innovative ecosystem for digital innovation and a champion in digital transformation
  • Named Fellow of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) for outstanding contributions to the information systems discipline in terms of research, teaching and service, 2019.
  • Identified Best Published Swiss/Liechtenstein Information Systems Researcher according to AIS Research Rankings 2017-2019, and (together with colleagues) ranked #1 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, #2 in Europe and #29 in the world.
